Life Is So Great October 1, 2009

Life is just so great. Our family is healthy and happy... Alex and Mommy have made some huge life changes. We started seeing a doctor that studies natural medicine. He took us both down the road to natural health and well being.. I know sounds nuts Hugh.. That is what Chris thought too...until he really saw how happy both of us became.

Those of you that really know our family may know that Alex has always had crazy energy and has always just bounced off the walls. It has been a great learning experience having a hyper active child like her. You would hardly recognize her now. We went to dinner tonight and a movie. She sat mostly still for dinner and stayed in her seat for the movie. This is a huge deal...

1. The first thing we did together was a gluten fee, sugar free, dairy free, citrus fruit free diet. for 4 weeks. He started her on mineral to help with brain function and some homeopath drops she took 3 times a day. And a few other vitamins that I mixed with her rice milk and cocoa.

a. This was not hard at all..Alex has had a ton of food issues and many of them were with dairy, gluten foods and citrus fruits.. so it made sense.. her body has been telling me this all a long. I just didn't understand, till know.

2. Now (2 months later) she still stays off most dairy and drinks rice milk. We stay far away from high fructose corn syrup, and any food dyes. I am now learning a lot about the additives in food too (MSG). Her diet is made up of mainly whole and natural foods. She eat lettuce and peppers for the first time this week and swallowed them... wow, I was so excited!!

3. She does so great now.. She is still an active child. Her energy is much more focused and she is able to follow directions better and be calm and sit still more now. She does great in her preschool. Mrs Kelly says she is awesome in class and does great.

The Foods Alex Eats Now 10/09

90% of our food is with out preservatives or high fructose corn syrup!!

Breakfast

*Healthy moms cereals no preservatives (of course the one with Marsh Marsh in them)
*low fat sausage with maple syrup
*protein shake with rice milk and cocoa (this we are weaning off right now, this is the one thing packed with preservatives, you name it!!)

Snacks

*Annie's fruit snacks, fruit tape snacks, and all the crackers are great.
*fruit leather
*Chips- as long as they are from the health food store they are actually more health and not packed with preservatives and MSG.. I try not to buy the cheddar anything in the grocery stores anymore.. if I buy at the grocery store it is only plain.. or natural white cheddar Cheetos

Meals

*lots of all natural hormone free chicken
*grain feed beef, no corn feed beef---gross
*ground turkey
*pasta
*rice
*lots of new veggies too: salad, raw peppers, broccoli, asparagus, corn
*She is even trying fruit; right now she will put it in her mouth and chew and spit out the skin or the gross texture. She loved eating grapes and blueberries today. Still not willing to try strawberries, peaches, bananas yet..we are getting there. She continues to get the 100% all natural juices though..

We have come a long way. I am so proud of her...

Alex's Firtst day of Preschool

First Day of Preschool, wear red day!

Alex loves her preschool. Mrs Kelly is her teacher. Her teacher said the funniest thing happened at school today. She has taught preschool for 9 yrs now and said she will remember this story.

During story time Alex needed to go potty so like usual the teacher excused her to go. All of the sudden Mrs. Kelly hears a blood curdling scream in the bathroom. Of course "all the 3 year olds" want to see what is happening... there was a tiny spider on the wall. So Mrs. Kelly kills the spider and puts it in the toilet.. Alex was so funny, she takes several big breaths and calms down quickly. Then Alex says ok and returns back for story time..

Alex loves bugs that is the funny part. And those of you that know Alex, she has some of the funniest facial expressions. So the whole deep breath things is so funny!!
